Sarahleah HANKES An artist since my early twenties, my painting career has taken me through over five decades of creative expression. From my early work's inspiration in 1960's Californian culture and the classic works of impressionists and also the era's contemporary artists like Flavia, through exploring the charm of natural and urban landscapes through the bold palettes of the seventies, to playing with form and abstraction in the pastels of the eighties, to exploring ancient spiritual numerology and mysticism through the language of art in the late 90's and early 2000's. Each stage of work has been a contributor to the next, each inspiring me to evolve and grow in new directions while also solidifying a foundation of integrity and depth for future work. Now in my seventies, my work is inspired by the vibrant and vivid palette of Florida's abundant sunshine, awe-inspiring hues over an ever-changing and energizing ocean, and the generous warmth and always-returning waves unique to this regenerative and magical landscape that I get to call "home." I have been propelled to revel in color and form in new and expansive ways, without filter or agenda - perhaps becoming an articulation of a long, fulfilling life of growth in freedom and skill, both inside and out.
